Mountain Rest Baptist Church is located on US Highway 28 in the beautiful mountains of northern Oconee County between Walhalla, South Carolina, and Highlands, North Carolina. We are a fully co-operating member of the Beaverdam Baptist Association, the South Carolina Baptist Convention, and the Southern Baptist Convention. Our doctrinal position is in agreement with the Baptist Faith and Message statement as adopted by the Southern Baptist Convention.
We receive members by statement of faith and a past believer’s baptism by immersion, by letter of recommendation from a sister church, and by baptism by immersion upon profession of faith in Christ.
The mission of the Mountain Rest Baptist Church is to lead our church family to grow spiritually within while reaching out to our community and to the world for the advancement of the Christian faith.”
…spiritually within, (‘But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.’ II Peter 3:18)
On Sunday mornings we offer bible study classes for all ages and traditional worship services with biblical preaching in a warm and friendly atmosphere of Christian fellowship. Special studies are scheduled for Christian growth and discipleship on Sunday evenings and other days as needed. Youth and children are encouraged to grow and actively participate through Bible Drill, recreational activities, and mission projects.
…while reaching out to our community, (‘Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.’ Mark 12:31)
Ministry to those around us is an important part of our service to Christ. We support a meals program for the elderly in our community, our Men’s Ministries cut firewood and do service projects for widows and those in need, our Deacon Ministry seeks to serve members and non-members in times of sickness and death, and our Women’s Ministries provide meals, prayer shawls, and knitted items to those in our community who are hurting. Through all these things we seek to share the love of Christ in a practical way that will bring people to Jesus.
…and unto the world, (‘And He said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the Gospel to every creature.’ Mark 16:15)
The heartbeat of our church is the mandate to take the gospel to the whole world. We support the mission efforts of our denominational entities through prayer and regular financial support. We support mission efforts to international students on the Clemson University campus, a Chinese evangelist, and a school in the slums of Nairobi, Kenya. We also participate in mission outreach at the local, state, national and international levels as God gives us opportunity.
